List of 2009 Hurricane Names Ready and Waiting

Now that the hurricane season is upon us, it is just a matter of time before the first storm is named.  For every year, there is a pre-approved list of names for tropical storms and hurricanes.  Therefore, there is already a list of 2009 hurricane names waiting to be utilized.  These lists have been generated by the National Hurricane Center since 1952.  The lists used to only consist of female names until 1979 when male names were added as well. Hurricanes are named alphabetically from the list in chronological order. Thus the first tropical storm or hurricane of the year has a name that begins with “A” and the second is given the name that begins with “B.”
