Is A Taser Right For Me?

I’ve been looking online for a tazer stun gun for awhile now but there’s so much information out there and maybe some misinformation, that I’m not sure if this is the right product for me. I’m just looking to be able to carry something around with me in case I find myself in a situation where I have to protect myself. I’d never be one to carry a gun or a knife but a whistle doesn’t seem to be enough either. Has anyone ever bought one of these, carried it and used it? Is it safe? Are they even legal? Any experiences you’ve had are appreciated.
