Hair Bands and Musical Substance
You know, hair bands have gotten a bad rap over the past several years as being all glam with no substance. This assessment may appear to be true to an outside observer, but in reality, hair bands actually had a lot of substance.
One must look past the teased hair, spandex pants, and makeup and take a closer listen to the music. Most would find that hair bands were jam packed with musical talent, which seems to have fallen to the wayside with current musical rock and hard rock trends. The guitar work was second to none, while the backing sections moved with great power and dynamics. Vocally speaking, or should I say vocally singing, hair bands were in a league unto themselves. The harmonic layering of guitar and vocal was a case study in great structuring of songs.
